Keeping your device secure helps to prevent any kind of direct or indirect threat to the device. You store personal and confidential data on the PC. Any kind of threat to your device can cause you a lot of harm. Today people barely use CDs or flash drives to share data. But you can get viruses from the internet. The internet is the biggest source of various threats. But you can’t live without the internet. Today lots of jobs depend on the internet. If you can’t cut the internet then aid security to the device. It will help to prevent malware and other threats to the device.

Install a good antivirus

Always install a good antivirus on your device. New devices have inbuilt antivirus like Windows Defender. This antivirus can detect lots of malware on the device. But the threats are increasing day by day. Inbuilt antivirus may not detect all types of malware. Get a personal antivirus that has excellent malware detection and removal rate. Antivirus provides security from viruses and various other types of malware. Both freeware and paid antivirus plans are available. But the free antivirus plans only provide basic security tools. For advanced security tools, you can get the premium antivirus plan. You get a yearly subscription to the antivirus. After the expiry, you can renew the plan and use the tools again. Some plans also provide auto-renewal functions. The subscription gets renewed automatically before the expiry. But when you don’t need the plan then you must cancel the auto-renewal.

How to cancel McAfee automatic renewal?

If your antivirus is in auto-renewal then open the account. Visit the subscription tab and check the license. Click on the Cancel button next to the plan and choose the confirm button. After the antivirus expiry, get a new security program for your device.

Use a personal firewall

One of the best ways to secure your PC from cyber criminals is through a firewall. Many new devices have inbuilt firewalls that check the network traffic. For better protection, you should use a personal firewall that can provide an extra layer of protection to the network. When you enable a firewall, it starts checking all incoming data packets on the network. It allows secure packets to enter and blocks all suspicious data packets and unknown requests. Personal firewalls also keep track of the outgoing traffic to ensure that no data is traveling outside the device without the user’s concern.

Use a strong password

Remember, passwords are set for a reason. Your password is the front-line defense for any kind of attack. To protect the data from hackers or any criminal, always use a strong password. Create a lengthy password that is difficult to guess. Never use your phone number or DOB as a password. Any person can guess these types of passwords and steal your data. You should create a meaningless password for the account. Many people use the same password for all their accounts. Remembering passwords is difficult but using the same password is not a solution. Use a unique password for your every account. If you can’t remember your password then use a password manager.

Update your OS and applications regularly

You should update your OS regularly. These updates are the fix patches on your OS. When a new threat appears, developers create updates that can prevent your OS from the new threat. Whenever you see a new update for the operating system, install it immediately. Go to the Update & Security tab and ensure that your OS is in auto-update. Also, check for updates on your applications. Open the Apps folder and check for outdated applications. Update all applications on the device. It will secure your device and also help in smooth processing.

Don’t install the suspicious application

You should only use reliable applications on the device. People often install certain apps on their devices. Before installing any application, check its ratings and reviews. Also, check the number of total downloads. If the downloads are very less then avoid that application. Many people install free gaming or editing apps from third-party sites as the original programs are paid for. In a free application, they might carry malware. Install only secure applications on your PC.

Get backup for all crucial data

Having security tools reduces the risks a lot. But no tool can fully secure the device from cybercriminals. It’s always good to have a backup for your data. Create a backup of your data on the cloud. When you store the data in the cloud, you can easily access it from any device. But the cloud is also not fully secured. For best security, get a backup of your crucial data on an external device like an external hard disk. After storing the data on an external hard disk, don’t connect it to any device. If you lost the data from your device, you can easily get it back from the external hard disk.
