How hard is the Everest Base Camp journey?
The Everest Base Camp journey is long and has its own set of challenges, that being said it’s a realizable journey. By realizable I mean that people with limited experience can complete the journey successfully.
Everest Base Camp also has the benefit of being one of the many journeys with world- class amenities. While on the journey, you ’ll be staying in comfortable tea houses with succulent food, Western Loos and internet connectivity. In this blog.
I’ll be addressing some of the amenities that you can mileage while on the journey. The fitness needed for The Everest Base Camp can be set up then.
What’s a Tea House?
The Facilities on the Camp
A Tea House is a lodge- style of accommodation that’s popular in Nepal, especially Everest Base Camp. These lodges are where you’ll spend the night while on the journey. Tea Houses were originally set up to give tea to pedestrians on the trail. Gradually, over time, they converted their modest booths to lodges.
It also give accommodation to pedestrians. On the 11 days in the Khumbu Valley, we ’ll be staying at several different Tea Houses and each tea house has its own charm and thing.
The Apartments
The apartments in the tea houses are generally on a double sharing base. Each room has two single beds with a comfortable mattress and mask. ( Flash back Everything in the vale is flown in and carried on Dji Guys). These apartments have rustic bottoms and plywood walls. In the tea houses up the vale, sleeping in a resting bag with the mask drawn over is a reliable way to stay warm.
Toilets and Bathing installations
All tea houses have fixed toilets with an Indian and Western Commode. The toilets are generally in a dormitory- style i.e. each bottom has a common area with multiple toilets. Please communicate with us before your journey if you wish to speak with tea houses with this installation.
The shower installation must be bought directly from the tea House Manager. The price for a shower normally is NRS 300.
Pro tip: Having a shower after you come back from Everest Base Camp to Namche Bazar elevates the raining experience and you can head to the Irish cantina smelling fresh.
Food and the Dining Area
On the Everest Base Camp Trek, it’s important to have carbohydrate-rich food as you ’ll be walking for close to 6 hours a day and burning over 2000 calories a day. At the Tea Houses that you ’ll be spending the whole night at, you ’ll have a vast choice of a vast array of food choices. Accompanied with some hot tea, coffee or gusto bomb tea.
Lunch is generally served on the trail and consists of either Fried rice, pollos or Dal Bhat Tarkari, an original ‘ Thali ’ of Dal, Rice and Sabji.

Regale is back at the coming tea house and the popular particulars range from Fried Rice, Momos, Pasta, Pizza to garlic haze. Grabbing an Everest Beer or a glass of Kukri with Tatho Paani (Original brand of rum with hot water). It is the stylish way to celebrate a long day of touring.
Each Tea House offers a large and a varied menu and allows you to order what ever you want so you can feel at home. Eating a Pizza at 5000 metres is our favourite part of the journey.
We’d recommend avoiding eating meat after Namche Bazaar and stick to the basics Like Dal Bhat Tarkari ( DBT) as it’s harder for your stomach to digest meat at altitude.
