Why my computer is not turning on?
I tried to do this last night but could not get the computer to turn on. I have a Dell Mini with dual screens. I am very confused and don’t know why my computer keeps turning on and off. I know that this is an issue with Windows 8, but do not know what to do. Is there a fix? Or a way to bypass Windows 8 and get back to Windows 7?The Question Why my computer is not turning on? is quite common.
Answer:
If you have a Dell Mini then the answer is simple: force a boot from a DVD or USB flash drive (especially a backup DVD) with the following steps:
1. Plug the drive into the system and hold down the + and – keys on your keyboard.
2. Select ‘boot from media’ and hit Enter.
3. Select the image file that came with your computer from a different drive and insert it into the drive.
4. Hit Enter again.
5. Release the keys and select ‘continue’.
6. Wait a few moments for the installation process to complete.
Once the installation process is complete, boot your computer into the operating system, start with the ‘safe boot’ option, and allow the installation of Windows 8 to finish.
It is not possible to boot from a USB flash drive or another DVD for any other Dell Mini except the Mini DV (DS3010) so if you do not have a Mini DV, you will have to wait for Dell to release a firmware update for the Mini DV.
If you try to reboot your computer and it does not boot then it is possible that you have more problems than just an issue with the operating system itself. If you have lost the CD that came with your computer or can not find it, you can use a USB flash drive to create a bootable Windows 8 system from scratch by following the steps below:
Why my computer is not turning on?
1. Insert the USB flash drive into the system and run Windows 8 Media Creation Tool.
2. Select the USB drive as the destination and click OK.
3. When the Media Creation Tool displays the operating system to be installed, click OK.
4. Select the USB drive that came with your computer and select install.
5. You can select to install the system on an existing hard drive, another storage device (DVD, Blu-ray, CD, or flash drive), or as a partition of the existing hard drive. Click Continue.
6. Select the MBR section and click Continue.
7. Click Continue and follow the instructions on the screen to write the system to the hard drive.
8. Windows 8 will then boot from the system, allowing you to then install Windows 8.
While it does not solve the problems with booting from a hard drive, it is another option to turn to. If the above steps do not solve the problems, you can read the questions and answers in the forum section titled ‘Other Windows 8 Issues’.
